New track from the very dope Prince George County (Maryland) producer emcee duo featuring fellow DMV resident yU of Diamond District. DTMD stands for “Dunc & Toine Makin’ Dollas” a play off of EPMD’s Eric and Parrish Makin Dollas.
It seems like DTMD’s goal is to bridge the gap between the golden age and native tongues and the new school by doing their own thing through their humble, honest music. I included their video for the single “You” below as well.
If your feeling it pre-order their album “Makin Dollas” (due September 20) featuring Oddissee and Kev Brown, among others.

Detroit rapper Danny Brown recently released his follow up to the very dope “The Hybrid” entitled “XXX.” I was drawn to Mr. Brown after I read an interview he did with Cocaine Blunts, his knowledge of hip hop had an incredibly wide scope, with a stan-like knowledge of NaS, E-40 and Dizzee Rascal while also professing his love for no longer intact “underground” labels like Def Jux and Rawkus.
It’s no wonder his beats can range from hard hitting boom bap to spacey electronic and his voice can stretch a whole major scale going from a low to an almost unbearable high shriek. His songs go through subject matter ranging from I can fuck your girl better shit talk to introspective vivid storytelling. One thing that stays constant through every Danny Brown song is his charisma.
“XXX” doesn’t have the consistence of “The Hybrid,” when Danny does his crazy high pitched punchlines on songs, the beats tend to lack, atleast for me. I predict existing Danny Brown fans will love this one but some dudes may say who the fuck is this? Then again maybe that’s what he’s going for. When he does try a bit more refined sound sonically he kills it and starts to get me thinking he’s one of the better lyricists out right now, but I’m pretty sure refined is the last thing he’s going for. Watch out for his next project, I have a feeling it will be his best yet, a collabo album with fellow motowner Black Milk.

I have started to become sick of rap videos. Either they are walking down a sidewalk, rolling/smoking a blunt, or pretending to be in the middle of a huge party with fake champagne. If you are with me on that, then you will also agree with me that Jason Anxious‘ video is nothing like the others. Daring to step out and be creative, Anxious has put together a captivating double-feature, “Michael Jackson/China Girls”. These songs, featuring the melodies of Alissa Paris, are featured on his newest project “Burning Ozones”.
Side note: Today (August 29th) would be Michael Jackson’s birthday. Rest in peace.

Singing like she has been doing it for three lifetimes, Lauren just recently had her first performance at UnicusHarry’s (Kanser) EP release show. Before the show, I was able to get a preview of one of her tracks and was thoroughly impressed. This girl possesses great potential through the progressive sound she brings to R&B music in Minneapolis.

The first release from Phonte’s much awaited solo album “Charity Starts At Home” features a rapping and singing Phonte (I always wondered why he couldn’t just do both) addressing the past few years of his life with his trademark wordplay and level headedness that has made him currently one of the best (or my favorite) rocking the mic.
Featured are the always on point Elzhi with Te’s former bandmate 9th Wonder on the boards making it a semi reunion (minus Big Pooh) of “Hiding Place,” one of my favorite Little Brother songs . Of all the albums supposed to drop September 27th (J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T, 9th Wonder, Evidence) I have to say “Charity Starts At Home” is my most anticipated.

Remember Timbo King? The cat that linked with Wu-Tang in the 90s? Well he is finally releasing an album, the debut from one of underground hip-hop’s most talked-about lyricists. Featuring RZA, Killah Priest, Lil’ Fame, Bronze Nazareth, R.A. The Rugged Man, Hell Razah, Akir, Jr. Reid, Vinny Idol, and more. Peep the video, mad creative.

One of the best advocates and representatives for Twin Cities hip-hop there is, Mr. Toki Wright drops his new banger of a single featuring the homie Yakub spitting lava bars to start, produced by DJ Three A Day. Like most of Toki’s songs he grabs your attention with his socio-political commentary while ripping a beat that keeps your head nodding. Yakub, a younger emcee from Minneapolis, has recieved national buzz for his production on the Ghostface Killah single, 2getha Baby. If you would like to check more of his music, click here. If you haven’t already make sure to support and drop a dollar for this heater at Bandcamp. Look out for a possible performance of this track at The Audio Perm Block Party
